Ditching my IUD for the Daysy Fertility Tracker

I am anxious about disclosing so much of my personal life, but switching to Daysy was such a game changer for me and I really want to share that there are other options, in particular, more natural options.  Now, a disclaimer,  I’m not a doctor and I can’t tell you what is best for your body and lifestyle! The following post is my personal experience that should be taken as information, and not personal medical advice.  It's also worth noting that I am I’m not anti-birth control. It’s a good tool for avoiding pregnancy and I have friends who love their IUD and suffer little side effects.

Please do your research and be sure to meet with a doctor or health care provider you trust before making any changes to your medications. I saw my doctor and educated her on the Daysy and she was thrilled that I knew my stuff.  She was also confident that I fit the profile for it -  being in an established long-term relationship, turning 30, and content if It did all turn to custard and I fell pregnant, I was content BIG STATEMENT.

After 13 years being on conceptive such as the Pill or more recently an IUD Mirena, I am putting my health and mind first and using the hormone free Daysy Fertility Tracker as my contraceptive. I have spent hours researching it and with a 99.4% accuracy, I am giving it my all.

This is my journey and a wee review on this Modern Device for a Modern Girl. Well, this isn't my review yet, but the start of a series.

So, what is Daysy?

Daysy is a fertility monitor based on the fertility awareness method (FAM). It learns, tracks and analyzes your menstrual cycle so that you can plan or prevent pregnancy. Much like charting or the calender method. In fact, 80% of Daysy users use the medical device to avoid pregnancy.  It’s a medically certified device clinically proven to be 99.4% accurate.

What I like most is that Daysy is all natural and free of side effects. Over the years I have suffered from sore boobs, random acne, hair thinning, anxiety, depression, headaches and weight gain - These are all side effects from the synthetic steroid levonorgestrel which is the same progestin used in the Mirena and many pills. Over the years I thought this was just part in parcel with "Shark Week" but it is really the cause of hormone imbalances, imbalances which are not helped with synthetic birth control forms.

My goal, to be 'Drug-free' to be natural, to listen to my body and to balance my hormones through food and supplements.

How does Daysy Work?

Every morning you take your basal body temperature under your tongue using Daysy as soon as you wake up. You don’t have to take your temp at the same time every day, you just have to do so after 3-4 hours of consecutive sleep. And it has to be the first thing you do. No playing on the phone or going to the bathroom. Even if you temp and roll back to sleep. Just has to be done first thing after 3-4 hours sleep.

Daysy evaluates your temperature and, based on that data, gives you a red, yellow, or green light to indicate your fertility status (to 99.4% accuracy) for the next 24 hours. It's really that easy!

Red: Red indicates the Fertile window. If you like me want to prevent pregnancy, this is the time to use a condom etc during sex or abstain. If you are trying to conceive, this is the time to get it on.

Yellow: If you are trying to prevent pregnancy, treat these as red! Daysy is learning more about your unique hormone patterns or is erring on caution due to your cycle fluctuations. Fluctuations in temperature can happen if you have irregular cycles, are coming off of hormonal birth control, you’re sick, had a few drinks the night before, etc. I treat yellow the same as red because, for me, I like that Daysy is cautious.

Green: These are my favourite days! Infertile days. Sex without a barrier would not result in pregnancy.

It is really that easy! Daysy works direct with the advice telling you what you do and if you want to you can sync it to your mobile for charting and more information. A chance to see trends and learn about your body.

So why the switch?

For me, I've had enough, I'm almost 30, and I'm planning on treating my body a lot better. I have had a lot of side effects from the pill or the Mirena I was on and I feel like I gave them all a decent go. At 30 I'm happy with exploring the Daysy and working with my body and not against it.

I plan on checking in 3 months and in 6 months on the blog and this is part 1 of this journey. This is by no means a review on the Daysy but an intro.

If you are interested in checking out the Daysy and have fully researched it and want to take it further, I have teamed up with them to provide a discount code of 5% use MODERNGIRL at http://www.daysy.com.au/ and you are good to go! I brought my own with this discount code and if you use it I do get a commission (I always like to disclose this stuff, no tricks here)  I'm grateful for this code too! as this device isn't cheap but if you add it up it's the same or just as much as seeing your doctor and other methods of conception. Plus, it's health for me!

Any questions let me know, I'm no expert but I am planning some cool reviews and blogs around this info and am excited to share my experience.
