TikTok Made Me Try It - K18 Biomimetic Molecular Repair Mask

This mask, the K18 Biomimetic Molecular Repair Mask is all over TikTok right now, and with wedding prep in full swing, and a $135NZD price tag I thought - “Gosh this must be really good”….and hit buy now.

My hair is fine and thin, the roots oily, and the ends dry. The balance is tough, but as I work to grow my hair, protecting and strengthening the ends is key for me.

When I shared the K18 mask on my Instagram everyone wanted to know where I got it - Hairplus is the official NZ stockist and I paid full price.

So what is the K18 Biomimetic Molecular Repair Mask?
It is a Leave-in molecular repair hair mask said to reverse the damage and in short: The K18 hair treatment repairs the keratin bonds in your hair using the K18 Peptide. This peptide transports amino acids (the building blocks of our hair, skin and nails) into the hair shaft to help repair damaged bonds. Think of it like the grout holding your bathroom tiles together, only it smells amazing and delivers unlimited great hair days.

Anyone can use the K18 mask, but it's especially great for those with dry, brittle hair damaged from dyeing, bleaching, heat styling, chlorine and even UV rays. Sound like you? Because in the heat of summer this is me.

The brand is also cruelty-free and vegan, and the mask comes in a smaller K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask 5ml size if you want to try before committing to the full-size product. I jumped right in for the full-sized baby!

This hair mask is a favourite of Khloe Kardashian's, and if it's good enough to bring her heavily-styled hair back to life, it's good enough for me.

How do you use it?

You wash your hair with shampoo and no conditioner, towel dry your hair and use a small amount of K18. You’ll need to wait 4 minutes and then you can style as normal. For best results, use for the first 4-6 consecutive washes following service, and then every 3-4 washes as needed to maintain hair strength.

So my thoughts…I hear you ask….

I liked it, well I loved it. I felt a noticeable difference, but there are some kinks that I struggled with.

I loved that it was easy to use, set and forget so to speak, and it’s low maintenance. For the 6 washes I used (once I got the hang of it) I loved I saved using my conditioner, but on those days my hair was flatter than usual and not as much volume as I would like a slight downside.

My biggest wee problem is I binned the box, and couldn’t remember the usage instructions that were not on the bottle. I had to re google to check the 4-6 shampoos consecutively, so for the first few uses I generally wasted product.

Overall would I buy again?
Yes, I think so. It comes down to my needs. This was easy to incorporate into my routine, and I felt like It lasted a while as I didn’t need to use it so much after the initial dosage. But it was expensive.

As for how K18 compares to the very popular Olaplex treatment products - both brands are brilliant, but I'm really loving how quick and easy K18 is to use. But I will be posting a blog soon!
