Dyson Corrale - My Thoughts on the $749 Hair Straightener

Dyson spent 100 million pounds creating the Dyson Corrale, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on it to do a review. When I shared the Dyson Corrale on my Instagram Stories the focus was - “you spent $749, on a hair straighter!” Well no I didn’t I was lucky enough to loan the Dyson Corrale and this gave me the chance to review it in the most unbiased way. Awesome, but also what if I fell in love….

Before writing this review, I watched several YouTube videos, including from my fave Brand Mondo and I attended a session with Dyson to get a behind the scenes look at everything. I used the Dyson Corrale for three weeks as well before making judgement. I really wanted an honest review. To go indepth, not first impressions like most of the press I had seen!

Before i jump in here is my situation! I own the Dyson hair dryer (It is amazing) and have a GHD straighter. My hair is thin on all levels and I have been working hard to grow it thick and long and strong - so far so good! I wash my hair 3 times a week, down from daily 🙌🏽 and suffer from frizz and grease! I use a frizz product 4 days a week normally. My style is normally a blow dry followed by a straighten. Also note, the image above, I hadn’t even straightened my hair yet!

With the Dyson Corrale, there is alot to learn so here are some key points:

The Dyson Corrale has three heat seatings to choose from - 165, 185 and 210 degrees, my GHD sits at 185 degrees. This means the Dyson Corrale allows me to straighten my hair at a lower heat setting. The technology means that you can get the result you want at a lower heat level. Just like the other products in the Dyson Hair range this also uses intelligent heat control to regulate the temperature of the plates 100 times a second……JUST WOW. Michael Beel, Dyson Stylist Ambassador and three-time New Zealand hairdresser of the year, said he uses heat setting one, 165 degrees on 70% of his clients. 165 degrees is the magic number for me, when I tried it at 185, the first time, it actually made my hair too straight...Straight away that told me that the Dyson Corrale, gives me a better result at 185 degrees, than my GHD achieves. Interesting!

The most major part of the Dyson Corrale are the flexing Plates - this is what makes the Dyson Corrale different. The plates are flexible, and end and move with the hair, this stops hair spillage over the sides of the plates. This control means no hairs can escape, and all the hair is straightened evenly. It means less heat is required to achieve the desired style. For me that meant less passes, and I was able to use the lowest heat setting and get the best possible result. For my hair this is a big win.

Cordless, but you can use the cable if you need or what it - You can use the Dyson Corrale with the cable attached, or without for up to 35 minutes cord free, and if you need it in a hurry, it will charge to 90% in 40 minutes. It also has the option of a cute docking station! I straighten my hair three times a week and found it went a week and a half to two weeks without needing a recharge! Pretty darn good! I don’t think being cordless is a big deal just being at home and all, but I know I will miss it when I return this guy!

The Dyson Corrale has a Flight Mode option - i found this interesting and helpful! Although I am not sure when I will use it! But, you can enable and dis-enable the battery as needed meaning you can pop the straighter in your check-in bag safely. They have really thought about the modern women!

The Dyson Corrale quality is unreal! - This guy is HEAVY and screams quality. I was lucky enough to be on a video call around this hair straighter, and they showed me videos of the Dyson testing process works. How they test quality, to ensure it lasts. Standing on it, pushing the buttons over and over again, throwing it, they put it through the works. This guy is quality. The heaviness too - not a big deal, in fact I kinda like it.

My personal thoughts:

  • My hair was smoother and the style lasted longer, all achieved at a lower heat = major yes! I also noticed I was able to style my hair faster with a better result than usual!

  • When curling, I preferred the curl it created, it was more natural.

  • Cordless was fun, but for at-home not really a big deal. Granted I will miss it! Who knew plugging something in was such a hassle! The battery also lasted me forever! I love the idea I can go for a weekend away without a cable.

  • Heavy, but it didn’t bother me whatsoever. To be honest it kinda helped me style it. It is very balanced and the weight made me feel it’s quality.

  • I loved that I could style my hair on a lower heat setting - this really made me think about my hair health and in fact was the tipping point that made me want her!

So overall - is it worth the price? I think so. Will I buy it? Yes and no! I have a hair straightener that works well, granted it is at a fixed higher heat. If that straighter were to die, then I the replacement would be the Dyson Corrale for sure! If i could afford it with ease, then yes. It will last a long time, it gave a great result and overall is just better for my hair.

That and it would match my dryer!
