How I Slay My Weekly Gym Sessions

Finding Motivation isn’t always easy, and sometimes life just gets in the way. I’m a relatively busy person and juggling a demanding full-time job, a social life, and my fitness goals aren’t easy so over the years I have pulled together a few tips to help me nail it...well most of the time. One thing to note, is I live alone, but regardless I’m hoping the following points help you one way or another to help you slay those gym goals.

The right gear for the job.
Honestly - this makes a difference and for me, it is my Monday’s Gym Towel. With The zipped pockets, I have some ready to go items permanently stored, so it’s grab and go. My lip balm, a hair tie, and my headphones live in my Monday’s Gym Towel. I pick it up, grab a drink bottle and I’m out the door. I later add my keys and my phone into the towel pockets and I’m sorted.

Monday’s Gym Towels are made of super-absorbent, highly durable microfiber fabric and I swap them out each Sunday. Ensuring each week I have a fresh towel.

I have an epic discount code too! Use the code MODERNGIRL at checkout for 15% off!

BUT! They actually have the most epic sale on right now with all towels at $45 including shipping until Sunday! Head over to their Instagram now and check it out!

Morning Wake Up Call. I start my mornings being woken up to whatever playlist is hot right now. The catch, my alarm is in my kitchen, Alexa is waking me up to tunes and to stop the music I need to get out of bed, walk to the kitchen and yell “Alexa Stop” by said time that is all done, I’m up, awake, and really have no choice but to hit the gym, chase those goals.

Clothing prep. Another thing I do to make my mornings slightly better is to lay out my workout clothes the night before. Not only does it set the mindset the night before, but the next morning I’m not running around trying to find a clean sports bra. All i need to do is change, grab my Monday’s Gym Towel (see point #1), grab a water bottle and go.

Time management - I really try and use my weekends wisely. I carve out an hour or so and get as much as I can done, so on busy weeknights, I do not stray. I do all my laundry washing and cleaning on a Saturday, and Sunday’s I meal prep, plan out my weekends, get my vitamins sorted, sort a fresh Monday’s Gym towel and ensure everything I can is sorted. This means if I end up out late on a weekday night, I don’t come home tired and say “oh well” no gym tomorrow because [insert excuse here] - I slay my weekly gym sessions by using my time wisely so when it gets tough I have no excuses.

Have a Plan - I like having a plan, knowing what I am going to train when, and spend some time on the weekends sussing out the plan. For me personally, I use the strong app and a simple pen and paper and write out what workout I plan to do when. Mondays = Legs, Tuesdays = shoulders, and that sort of thing. Nothing is less motivating then walking into the gym and not having a plan. It also makes it harder to get out of bed at 5 am!

There you have it! Just some of the things I do that keep me motivated. These have come out of trial and error, and mostly are the result of some hard conversations I’ve had with myself.  I’ve taken my excuses, noticed my shortfalls and come up with a plan.

What are your tips for making those early starts? How do you stay organised for the gym?
